Low Testosterone: Avoid Testosterone-Replacement Therapy

The Dangers of TRT

If you’re experiencing symptoms of low testosterone, you might be thinking: “Why bother to eat foods that boost testosterone or do exercises that increase testosterone when I can go the quick way and get a testosterone fix directly?“.

The quick answer is that TRT (testosterone-replacement therapy) can be very dangerous for your health. You’ll be much better off consuming nutrients that are known to boost testosterone production than by getting testosterone unnaturally from outside.

How testosterone therapy works:

low testosterone treatmentTestosterone is put into or onto your body and thus enters your bloodstream. It can be delivered via patches, injections, pills or gels. In studies, patches often caused skin irritation (in about 25% of users).

Men who used gel had to wash their hands immediately after use and not let anyone touch the area where the gel had been applied. The reason for this is that it could cause side effects such as hair growth on women or premature puberty in the case of a child. In a study, some gel users experienced cardiac, respiratory and skin problems. However, several did experience an increase in muscular strength during the study.

A method of oral TRT called Striant is a tablet which is applied to the upper gums. It is considered a more effective testosterone booster than patches, but could cause mouth or gum irritation, tenderness or pain. Again, care should be taken to ensure that no woman or child comes into contact woth the hormone.

Orally-applied testosterone is available in Europe and Canada but not in the U.S.A.; its use has been banned there because direcly-ingested testosterone could be toxic to the liver. Testosterone is classified as a controlled substance and is therefore more stringently regulated than minerals and vitamins.

The prognosis for TRT use gets still worse!

To begin with, testosterone therapy can increase your red blood cell count. This can cause the blood to thicken, putting you at greater risk of a heart attack or stroke. Other side effects of TRT include acne, sleep apnea and gynecomastia (male breast enlargement).

While there is uncertainty about a possible link between TRT and prostate cancer, doctors recommend that their male patients have their PSA levels checked at least once a year.

The worst thing about TRT

Using one of these unnatural methods of testosterone therapy for even a few weeks can shut down your body’s natural testosterone-producing functions. Your body will stop producing testosterone and your testicles will shrink. The longer you stay on your TRT regimen, the more difficult it will be for your body to resume its testosterone-producing functions once you stop using TRT. Horrors!

What’s our conclusion?

As many studies have shown, low testosterone has many detrimental effects, including weight gain, loss of muscle, low libido, fatigue, depression and mental decline. After the age of 30, you produce less testosterone every year. Trying to reverse the process by taking testosterone directly is a downright dangerous practice. You’ll be risking heart attacks, strokes, liver toxicity and other ills.
